中國大陸三大電信營運商之一的中國聯通，今年針對3G手機客戶端出更積極的補貼方案，有助提升WCDMA系統市場，與主打TD-SCDMA的中國移動較勁。市場預期，將有助拉抬WCDMA晶片供應商聯發科（2454）和凌陽（2401）旗下恆通高科的出貨量。

市場傳出，恆通高科近日已拿到中國聯通最新版WCDMA的認證，成為第一家台灣晶片供應商，有利於今年第三季出貨量，可望達到每月300萬套的目標。
台灣手機晶片供應商布局3G市場，均以大陸為首要戰場，再藉以轉進印度市場。根據大陸工信部統計，至去年11月底，中國3G用戶數超過4,000萬，每月新增3G用戶從10年初的158萬，增加到11月的400萬以上，成長快速。
中國聯通引進蘋果iPhone更是一炮而紅，去年9月新增104.3萬戶創下歷史新高，用戶總數至11月底已達1,277.6萬戶。中國聯通去年底宣布進一步降低3G優惠方案門檻，由人民幣96元（約新台幣423元）大舉降到46元（約新台幣202元），降幅高達52%，有助今年擴大吸引用戶。
中國聯通3G系統主打全球主流規格WCDMA，在擴大補貼方案下，晶片供應商看好今年表現，有機會趕上中國移動的TD-SCDMA。國內布局WCDMA的晶片供應商，主要為聯發科和恆通高科。

在大陸2G晶片市場有六成市占率的聯發科，今年布局3G的重心，由去年的TD-SCDMA轉移至WCDMSA。聯發科總經理謝清江曾指出，今年WCDMA將是3G晶片的主要成長動能。
晶片供應商認為，今年大陸3G市場不見得是智慧型手機的天下，也可能是提供較多應用的功能型手機。
